Poetry in Motion held a competition to design posters for bus interiors. Their jury supplied the poems, and local contestants submitted interpretations. This was a winning entry.

I painted the portraits of this mother and daughter in Central Park. They were watching their little boy sailing his boat on a pond. I didn't want them to know they were the subjects of my painting, so I memorized facial features during our chitchat, then painted when they looked away.
